Visiting the latest and hippest restaurant in town? Checking in to a place on your Facebook profile allows your friends and followers to see where you've been. We'll show you how to do just this in your profile.

When you check in to a place on Facebook, you tag that place in your post. This way, your friends and followers can see what restaurants, airports, cities, and any other places you're visiting. As long as the place you want to check in to is available on Facebook, you can add that to your post.

When using this feature, keep in mind that publicizing where you are or where you have been is a potential safety risk. Being mindful of what you share on Facebook is key to staying safe on the social media platform.

Check in to a Place on Facebook

The steps to check in to a place on Facebook on desktop and on mobile are pretty much the same. We'll use Facebook's website on a desktop for the demonstration.

Start by opening a web browser on your computer and accessing the Facebook site. Log in to your Facebook account if you haven't already.

On the Facebook site, at the top, click the "What's on Your Mind" box. This lets you create a new post in your account.

A "Create Post" window will open. In this window, next to "Add to Your Post," click the "Check In" option (a map pin icon).

Facebook will open a "Search for Location" window. In this window, click the "Where Are You" box and type the name of the place you want to check in to.

In the same "Search for Location" window, select the desired location from the search results.

You'll be back to the "Create Post" window. Here, at the top, you will now see your tagged location or place. You may now create your post as usual.

Once you're ready to publish your post, at the bottom of the "Create Post" window, click the "Post" button.

And Facebook will publish your post along with your selected place tagged in it. Go ahead and brag about all the great places you've been to with these posts!

Later, if you'd like to remove your check-in post, you can do so with just a couple of clicks.
